Getting started

You can build the first useful part of the model in a few minutes.

1. Create your organization

Go to the home page and choose Get started. Sign in with your work email. Particulars sends a single-use magic link; there is no password to create.

The first time you sign in, create an organization. Choose a name and a URL slug. Your email domain becomes an auto-join domain, so colleagues who sign in with the same domain can join the organization.

Note

You can belong to more than one organization. This is useful for advisers, contractors, agencies, portfolio careers, joint ventures, side projects, and anyone whose work does not fit inside one employer.

2. Model your first team

From the organization dashboard, choose New charter.

Every team begins with the same six sections:

  • Purpose
  • Focus areas
  • Measures
  • Decision rights
  • Roles
  • Guidelines

Start with purpose and focus areas. They give the rest of the model something to organize around.

A useful purpose is one sentence. A useful set of focus areas usually contains three to seven short territories. You do not need to finish the whole charter before it becomes useful.

3. Add the people and relationships

Add the people who fill the team's roles. Leave a role unfilled when the gap is real. Link related teams with mentions, parent-child relationships, and role connections.

The model becomes more useful as its relationships become explicit.

4. Share it

Every charter has a URL. Organization charters are visible to members by default. A charter may also be published publicly from its share settings.

Use public charters for open teams, collaborations, examples, or work that benefits from being legible beyond the organization.

Press ⌘K from anywhere to move between teams and common actions.
